Jason draws inspiration from an eclectic background. Born to Malaysian artist Chinkok Tan and Hungarian artist Agnes Ivan, Jason spent his formative years being paraded through urban sub-terranean galleries of the early 1970's. He subsequently bears witness to an unwavering dedication to craft and innovation.
I try to cultivate an artistic symbiosis with the producer and director, building a technical foundation that supports the film language we decide to use. I never isolate my pragmatic responsibilities from our creative vision. My goal is to always satisfy both interests.
Jason earned a BFA Honours degree in film production, history and theory from York University and has spent the past 15 years honing his craft working in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Los Angeles. Along the way, he has garnered numerous awards including a Gemini nomination and several awards from the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. Jason has experience using all formats of film, HD video and digital cinema systems such as Alexa and RED.
